English translation

Samir's family used Arabic and Norwegian daily. The children often answered in Norwegian even when their parents spoke Arabic. Samir initially feared they would lose contact with his language. He corrected many words but noticed conversations becoming shorter. Gradually the family chose another approach: reading stories, calling relatives and cooking while talking. Children also chose topics they cared about. The family saw language was not just a task to complete correctly, but a way to share humour, memories and experiences. Samir still helped with words but focused more on keeping conversation going. Both languages then found a more natural place.
