Indefinite articles

Norwegian nouns use en, ei or et. Learn the article with the noun: en leilighet, et kjøkken.

The rule, step by step

  1. Nouns have masculine en, feminine ei and neuter et genders.
  2. Bokmål permits en with many feminine nouns. Keep the forms you learn consistent.
  3. Learn en bil and et rom as units. Meaning alone cannot predict every noun’s gender.
