The rule, step by step

  1. Derfor introduces a result; likevel introduces an unexpected result. Fordi introduces a subordinate reason clause.
  2. Derfor and likevel are adverbs, unlike og. When they start a main clause, the verb takes second position.
  3. Join the ideas with appropriate punctuation: Det regner. Derfor blir vi hjemme.
